The Hand Bell Ringers of Great Britain (HRGB) was formed in 1967. The East Midlands region was the first of the eight regions to be formed and its inaugural meeting was held at St Wulfram’s Secondary Modern School, Grantham in April 1975. This region has 24 member groups of Handbell ringers. The region stretches from Northamptonshire in the south to Nottinghamshire in the north

The following is a message from Tim Willetts - National Chair of HRGB

Covid-19 and our handbell events
On Saturday 4th July the HRGB National Executive met via video-conference facility. Discussion about the impact of Covid-19 on handbell events was comprehensive. Guiding principles were providing clear leadership to our members and the importance of keeping our members safe. We were mindful of the dreadful impact of this disease on individuals and the current lack of any vaccine or reliable treatment.
As a result of this discussion the NEC decided that national events - the National Rally, UK Bronze, NRRW and the Musical Directors' Weekend Seminar - should all be put back by two years. So the next national event to take place will be the national rally in 2022. Participants registered for any of the events already open for booking have been contacted by the organisers to let them know the arrangements and their options.
However, it may be the case that regional events, with shorter preparation and booking times, or arranged on-line or by video-conferencing, might be able to take place in 2021 - depending on Government and / or specific local guidelines and conditions.

We felt that it was important to provide some advice tailored to handbell ringing, as the Governments' advice is often not very relevant to our activities. A group of NEC members, informed by medical experience, have agreed to draw up advice for members relating to starting to ring again. This advice is now available to read and/or download on the HRGB Website - Click here to see it. https://handbells.org.uk/covid-guidelines

In the meantime, our request to any groups tentatively planning when and how to start ringing is please be patient. Good starting points, in any case, will be:-- to listen to and abide by Government guidelines about gatherings, social distancing and hygiene;- to talk together about whether you all want to get back together and accept team members' individual decisions. Some may need or wish to continue to self-isolate;- to take into account your venue's requirements relating to distancing, hygiene and other factors.
We are going through a difficult time but with patience, care, good humour and mutual support, after a while we will once again be able to enjoy the music-making we all love.

Due to the ongoing impact of the Coronavirus restrictions, the Regional Team rehearsal sessions are suspended until further notice. If you are a Regional Team member, we will contact you when we have news of starting again. In the meantime, please look at your music so that when we do start again there should not be too much difficulty in picking up from where we left off. Keep well and hopefully we can meet again before too long.

The re-scheduled 2020 HRGB National Rally organised by the NW region is now planned to be held in April 2022. If you applied to attend in 2020 you will be contacted in respect of a refund or to agree to carry your fee over to the new date.

New members always welcome for the Regional Team and the team dates for 2020 are shown on the dates for the diary page.

Please let Jane Heald know in good time if you are unable to attend a Regional Team monthly rehearsal session. Thanks.
